Women's soccer puts up 7 in win over NWC

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – There was no shortage of scoring for Morningside's women's soccer team in its 2023 meeting with Northwestern, as the Mustangs came away with a 7-1 win with four Morningsiders finding the back of the net.

Keyera Harmon was first to find a hole in Northwestern's defense, recording a goal in the 25th minute with another coming nine minutes later. Tara Kelleher followed suit, tickling the twine in the 43rd minute and connecting on an assist from Melissa Tsatiris early in the second half.

Northwestern answered with a goal in the 55th minute, but Tsatiris quickly recorded another score for Morningside. Julie Raffel hit goal no. 6 for the Mustangs, and an own goal for Northwestern pushed Morningside to the final 7-1 margin of victory.

Morningside tallied a total of 32 shots, including 18 on goal, in the match. Isabel Ter Weeme got the start, recording a pair of saves in the first half of play. Kyla Syverson took her place in goal in the second half, with the only shot she faced slipping by.

The Mustangs are back on the pitch on Wednesday, playing Doane University at Elwood Olsen Stadium at 8 p.m.
