
Fliege, Schuster power Mustangs in 11-inning win
CRETE, Neb. — The Morningside University softball team earned two wins Friday over Doane, with one of them coming in extra innings. Morningside won Game 1, 4-3, in 11 innings, while it also topped the Tigers 5-1 in the nightcap.

In Game 1, the Mustangs posted two runs, which both ended up being huge. Paige Schuster doubled in the go-ahead run in the 11th, while Jalyn Noelle drove Schuster in with a sacrifice fly.
Doane took the early lead with a two-run homer in the second inning. Lainie Keller cut the Mustangs' deficit in half with an RBI single in the sixth, while Jenna Skradski tied it with an RBI groundout during the same rally.
Adeline Fliege pitched all 11 innings. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits to earn her sixth win. She struck out seven Tigers and walked three. Fliege saw 48 batters, and threw 101 strikes. In total, Fliege threw 156 pitches.
The Mustangs then added three seventh-inning insurance runs during the nightcap to seal the game in regulation. Noelle got the three-run rally started with an RBI single. Kennedy Wineland had an RBI single, then Addyson Maxell added run Nos. 4 and 5 with a single up the middle.
Mackenzi Harrel homered in the first inning with two outs.
Morgan Secora won her sixth game this season by holding the Tigers to three hits. She allowed a run, but it was unearned. She allowed one walk. Out of 88 pitches, Secora hit the strike zone 59 times.
