FREMONT, NEB. - The Morningside softball team's Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule got underway in a hurry today as the Mustangs split the league-opening series 8-7 and 1-9.
Morgan Secora got the win in the circle in the opener, fanning three batters in the outing.
Paige Schuster and Secora both homered, with 3 and 2 RBIs, respectively. Kennedy Wineland, Jalyn Noelle, and Addyson Maxell also each drove in runs.
The Mustangs' bats were far from quiet in the second contest, with Wineland, Josie Hernandez, and Mackenzi Harrel each collecting two hits. Ellie Gengler was the lone Mustang to score, reaching home off of the bat of Bralen Biddlecome as the first run of the game.
Morningside heads to Mount Marty on Sunday before opening Jensen Softball Complex on Friday.
