Softball splits doubleheader with No. 9 Northwestern

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – For the second straight day, the Mustangs had their doubleheader moved inside the American State Bank Dome in Sioux Center, and like Friday's games with Dordt, Morningside split a pair of games against Northwestern Saturday.

Morningside picked up a 1-0 win in game one before losing game two 4-1.

The lone run from game one came off the bat of Mackenzi Harrel, who hit a solo home run in the second inning. Morningside's lone other hit was a single from Emma Barwick. Meanwhile, the Mustangs received a pitching gem from Bralen Biddlecome, who recorded all but one out in the win. She struck out two without allowing a run. Morgan Secora recorded the other out in the circle. 

Game two went in favor of the Red Raiders, who scored the first four runs of the game. Morningside broke through in the sixth with an RBI single by Paige Schuster. The Mustangs mustered five hits in the game, including a triple from Harrel and a double from Secora. Mackenna Sidzyik scored the lone Morningside run.

Secora started game two in the circle, pitching four innings and taking the loss. She struck out two in the game. Maggie Fisher struck out two over the finale two innings.

Morningside now sits tied for fourth in the GPAC with an 11-7 record. Dordt is one game ahead of the Mustangs at 12-6 and Concordia is tied with Morningside at 11-7. Morningside has four games remaining this season. The Mustangs face Concordia Tuesday and Jamestown Saturday, both at home.
