Bats come alive to split pair of games Saturday

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Morningside softball made the trek back up to Sioux Center and the American State Bank Dome Saturday for a pair of games, splitting the games against Dickinson State and Mayville State.

Dickinson State got the best of Morningside in the first game of the day 4-2 in large part to a three run third inning for Dickinson State.

Kennedee Jones scored the first run of the game on a Jalyn Noelle single. Jones went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles in the first game of the day. After Dickinson State scored four straight runs in the second and third innings, it took Morningside until the seventh inning to respond.

Lainie Keller singled home Kennedy Wineland in the top of the seventh inning, but Morningside was unable to complete the comeback.

Keller totaled two hits and an RBI. Noelle added a base hit and an RBI. Bralen Biddlecome took the loss, pitching three innings. Jordan Skradski pitched three innings and didn't allow a run. Both pitchers struck out a pair of batters.

Morningside rolled past Mayville State 10-1 in six innings to split the day. The Mustangs scored multiple runs in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Jones singled home Mackenna Sidzyik in the first and Keller scored on a double steal to make it 2-0. After Mayville State scored a run in the third, Morningside struck for three in the fourth. After Emme Dietrich scored the first run of the inning, Mackenna Sidzyik doubled to right to score Wineland to make it 4-1. Morningside broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to make it 8-1.

Noelle walked for the first run of the inning and Wineland walked for the second run to score. Sidzyik singled to score Noelle and Dietrich and Morningside's lead was seven. The Mustangs walked it off with a two-run home run from Mackenzi Harrel.

Jones had her second three-hit game of the day, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sidzyik went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Harrel added two hits, including the walk-off blast, and two runs scored. Jenna Skradski pitched a six-inning complete game with two strikeouts for her first win of the season.

Morningside (4-4) will leave the state of Iowa for the first time this season on March 1, going to Gulf Shores, Alabama for five games in three days.
