Turnis, Jerabek pick up wins at NWCA National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Carson Turnis and Jakob Jerabek put Morningside on the scoreboard in the team's consolation bracket dual at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Cedar Rapids today. The Mustang men fell to the top-seeded Grand View team by a margin of 52-0 before seeing a 38-9 loss to no. 9 seed Indiana Tech in the invitational tournament that features the nation's best wrestling teams.

Turnis scored first in his match with a second-period escape with 1:18 to go in the period, opting to try for the score when given choice of position. His opponent, Indiana Tech's Landon Buchanan, followed suit in the third, sending the match into an overtime period. It was then that Turnis was able to get a takedown for a 4-1 sudden victory.

Jerabek's route to victory was more decisive, scoring a takedown at 1:06 before pinning Ian Clifford in 2:55.

Morningside returns to the mat tomorrow in the 13-16 place bracket, facing Eastern Oregon University at 9 a.m.
