
Dirkx, Jerabek headline Morningside men's efforts at Doane
CRETE, NEB. – A pair of third place titles headlined Morningside’s men’s wrestling team’s day at the Doane Conner Oppenheim Open yesterday, as Abraham Dirkx and Jakob Jerabek both rebounded from losses to win their respective third place matches.
CRETE, NEB. – A pair of third place titles headlined Morningside's men's wrestling team's day at the Doane Conner Oppenheim Open yesterday, as Abraham Dirkx and Jakob Jerabek both rebounded from losses to win their respective third place matches.
Dirkx started the day with a 13-2 major decision in the 157-pound weight class before falling in the second round 8-4. Dirkx responded with a pair of quick victories, both via fall, in 1:27 and 1:53. A subsequent medical forfeit and 8-2 decision advanced him to the consolation semifinals, where another medical forfeit and a victory via no contest secured third place for the senior.
Jerabek's day started with a victory via 17-0 tech fall, before advancing to the 285-pound bracket's quarterfinals via a fall in 2:45. A second period fall, coming at the 4:18 mark, advanced him to the semifinals, but a loss by major decision bumped him to the consolation bracket. Jerabek bounced back with a fall in 4:14 in the consolation semifinals and a fall in 4:45 to claim the victory in the third place match.
The Mustangs make their home debut on Saturday, as they welcome Minnesota West to the Hindman Hobbs Center at 2 p.m.
