
Mustangs collect nine aces in four-set win over Clarke
DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Morningside University men’s volleyball team earned its 11th win of the season Saturday with a four-set victory over Clarke. Morningside swept the Pride by set scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-16.

The Mustangs amassed 46 total kills and hit .246 in the victory. They also had nine service aces.
In the first set, Morningside built a 6-1 run that helped it create distance and set the tone. During that run, Liam Lutz and Mohamed Benkrid had kills, while Tharen Cox recorded an ace. Cox also closed out the set with a kill. The Mustangs hit .423 during the first frame.
Morningside trailed early in the third set, but it didn't build a two-point lead until the 21-19 mark when Benkrid put the ball on the floor on the Clarke side. An Alves kill and a Ferdinando Vinti ace clinched set No. 3 for the Mustangs.
There were three aces from Vinti, Alves, and Donte Jennings that helped the Mustangs go on an 8-2 run during the fourth set. Tucker Juhnke ended the match with an ace.
Vinti and Alves both had three aces. Jennings led the Mustangs with 13 kills, while Alves collected 12. DePauw had a team-high 25 assists, followed by 15 from Gabe Schreck.
Ten different Mustangs had a dig, led by Owen Anderson with 10, but Jennings also had nine.
Benkrid had the lone solo block.
Morningside returns home for Senior Night at 8 p.m. Friday against Kansas Wesleyan at Allee Gymnasium.
