Mustangs sidestep Coyotes in penultimate regular season match

SALINA, KAN. – The Morningside men moved a step closer to the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason with a win at Kansas Wesleyan last night, pulling ahead of the Coyotes in the standings.  The Mustangs, who have a game remaining in the regular season, set host KWU aside with a three-set sweep, 25-15, 28-26, and 25-11.

The Mustangs had a successful night on the attack, hitting .357 and striking for 40 kills in the three-set affair.  Isaiah Baynes made a statement, terminating 18 points and at a .368 percentage, but Erik Krenz took top honors in the efficiency column, working for 11 kills with no errors in 14 attempts for a .786 percentage.  Jacob DePauw was good for 35 assists in the match.

Krenz and Dylan Hamil took the lead on the defensive front with three block assists each, wile Morningside had four team blocks.

Owen Anderson was the standout among the Mustangs' receiving ranks, recording 18 digs in the libero jersey.  Hamil followed with 11.

Morningside faces recent opponent Central Christian to wrap the regular season.
