Men's Tennis sweeps doubleheader in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Mustangs made the trip down to Des Moines, and picked up a pair of victories over Grand View and Central Friday afternoon.

Against Grand View, the Mustangs swept the doubles competition and won four of six singles matches to win the dual 5-2. In singles play, Mark Trenkle picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 2 singles. Gustav Sjoberg won No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Joao Pedro Pierry Izoldi Costa won the No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1 and the Mustangs got the No. 6 singles point by forfeit. 

In doubles play, Winyou Asavaruangchai and Abhishek Mohapatra won the No. 1 doubles 7-5. Mikhil Raja and Christian Kelly won No. 2 doubles 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) and the No. 3 doubles was a Morningside victory by forfeit.

Against Central, the Mustangs swept singles play and took two of three doubles flights to win 7-0. In singles play, Santiago Minetti won 6-0, 6-0 in No.1 and Trenkle won 6-5, 7-6 in No. 2. Skander Ben Abdallah took the No. 3 singles victory 6-1, 6-0 and Sjoberg won his second singles match of the day 6-0, 6-2.  Raja won No. 5 singles 6-0, 7-5 and Kelly won No. 6 2-6, 6-0, 10-6.

In doubles, the Mustangs duo of Trenkle and Sjoberg won the No. 1 doubles 6-0. Asavaruangchai and Mohapatra won No. 3 doubles 6-4.

Morningside is back in action against Iowa Central to end their fall schedule Sunday.
