
Mustangs take first in eight events, fall to Gustavus Adolphus

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Morningside collected eight first place finishes in today's men's swimming dual with Gustavus Adolphus College, finishing second as a team, 141-116.
The highlight of the day was a Justin Bay first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 52.98 second, which is good for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics provisional qualifying time and broke the pool record of 53.03 seconds.
John Spicer also recorded a provisional qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a 46.87 with Bay behind him at 48.74 seconds.
Spicer also finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a clocking of 1:48.07 seconds.
Jack La Rue added to the team's tallies with a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.57 seconds) and a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (56.25). Caden Morton placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:04.91.
Jake Bolda was a strong competitor for the Mustangs on the distance side of things, taking the top spot in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:19.18 and finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.56.
The Mustangs also collected top finishes in a pair of relays, as Bay, Morton, Walker Goebel, and Spicer took the 200-yard medley relay title in 1:39.15. La Rue, Bay, Goebel, and Spicer united for the 400-yard freestyle relay, collecting top finish in 3:17.27.
Morningside's men are back in the pool on November 23 as they travel to Gustavus Adolphus in Saint Peter, Minn.
