SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs crossed paths with Dakota Wesleyan's Tigers for the second time in less than a week, and for the second time, Morningside came away with a victory, this time 2-0 to advance to the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament semifinal round.
A scoreless tie was broken 20 minutes into the second half, when Jurre Thielen took a ball from Tim Kobbenbring in front of the goal and punched it through to find the back of the net. The game winner was followed with an insurance goal from Tassilo Koerner almost 20 minutes later on a Niklas Kneller assist.
This week's GPAC Defensive Player of the Week added a clean sheet to his record, saving the only shot on goal that the Tigers were able to muster.
Morningside will play in the GPAC tournament semifinals on Saturday at Elwood Olsen Stadium, playing Hastings at 2 p.m.
