Morningside breaks school record with 14 goals

FOREST CITY, Iowa – A new school record was broken on Wednesday.

The Morningside University men's soccer team set a single-match record of 14 goals in a 14-0 win over Waldorf. The Mustangs scored nine times in the first half, then five more during the final 45 minutes.

Yannik Vogel, Niklas Kneller and Gustavo Dos Santos all scored in the first five minutes of the match. Mathias Constantinou assisted on Vogel's and Dos Santos' goal, while Tassilo Koerner helped out on Kneller's scoring play.

Kneller wound up with four goals overall. He scored the fourth M'side goal at the 10-minute, 40-second mark, then had goal Nos. 12 and 13 late in the second half. Kneller took six shots.

Koerner had the fifth goal scored, assisted by Bennet Wesselkamper. Bickel had the sixth, assisted by Dos Santos.

Tony Spina scored the next two goals, both in less than 2 minutes. Bickel and Guillermo Roman helped Spina with the assists.

Max Sickenberger scored the final first half goal, which came unassisted.

Kenan Kodal put the 10th goal on the board, and Bickel earned the assist. In the 64th minute, Bickel scored unassisted.

Tim Kobbenbring broke school history with the 14th goal at the 86:45 mark. Wesselkamper recorded the assist.

Morningside outshot the Warriors 37-1. In terms of shots on goal, the Mustangs took 24.

Tim Teschner played all 90 minutes, and he had one save.
