Morningside and Doane tie 1-1

Morningside men record season's third draw

CRETE, NEB. – Morningside got back out of the loss column against Doane University this weekend. It was, however, unable to collect a win as the teams played to a 1-1 draw.

The Tigers got on the board early, pulling off a trick that was reminiscent of the Mustangs' loss to Hastings earlier in the week by scoring with less than two minutes off of the clock.

Morningside responded better this time, stopping the bleeding through halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, Tom Maxon's Mustangs turned up the pressure on the attack, recording more shots in the second half than Doane took the entire match.

Eight minutes into the second half, Alex Gonzalez found the net on a pass from Frederik Endahl to record the equalizer and let Morningside play from even ground again.

Morningside's offense recorded 29 shots with 12 on goal. Gonzalez and Robin Thomala each took four shots, with three on goal. Jonas Markfoged led the shots column, with five.

Bjarne Huth, collecting the decision in the match, had six saves with seven shots on goal from Doane.

The Mustangs are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, with an 8 p.m. match against Concordia University at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
