Mustangs Start Season with Team Win at MMU Invitational

YANKTON, S.D. – The Morningside University men's golf team opened its fall season with a team win Tuesday at the Mount Marty Invitational at Fox Run Golf Course.

The Mustangs 'A' team turned in a two-day cumulative score of 581. On Tuesday, they shot 285, which was under par. Monday's team score was 296.

Morningside edged Northeast Community College by one stroke and Doane's top team by two strokes.

Ryan Cavanaugh shot even par during his 18-hole round on Monday with a 72, then improved his score by one stroke Tuesday to turn in a third-place 143. Cavanaugh had five birdies during his Day 2 round.

Pablo Colin tied for fourth with Doane's Cauy Walters, turning in an even score of 144. Colin shot a 73 on Monday, and 71 on Tuesday.

Jacob Taweel was tied for 14th with a 36-hole score of 147. On Tuesday, Taweel shot 72.

Ariel Lev made the Top 30 with a 6-over 150, and Mason Burger was tied for 48th with a score of 156.

The Mustangs 'B' group placed sixth in the team standings at 601. Finn Coull tied for seventh, turning in a 36-hole score of 145. Brock Luterman was tied for 24th (149), Jose Ricardo Martinez tied for 35th (152), Ben Brodin tied for 44th (155), and Tyler Show 59th (162).
