The Mustangs got within one point of seventh-nationally ranked Dordt late in the second half, but the Defenders had the final answers in an 87-82 win.
Morningside went on an 8-0 run that started with 6 minutes, 2 seconds remaining in the GPAC contest. Caleb Dreckman scored five quick points, then Joey Skoff had a conventional 3-point play.
Aidan Vanderloo later made a layup with 1:53 left that also crept the Mustangs to within a point.
Skoff led the Mustangs with 22 points, making six shots and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Vanderloo scored 20 points, as the senior made three 3-pointers and three free throws. Dreckman contributed 13 points, while Justin Sitti had 10. Sitti also had four assists.
As a team, Morningside was 17-for-18 from the line.
Brendan Buckley had eight points and 10 rebounds. Sitti had nine, and Dreckman brought down six boards.
Morningside closes out its regular season at 3:45 p.m. Saturday with Senior Day against Briar Cliff.
