BELLEVUE, NEB. – A dominating second half lifted the Mustangs to a win over Mayville State as part of Bellevue University's Four Points by Sheraton Classic today, as Morningside sidestepped the Comets 97-76.
While Morningside held a 43-40 lead as the teams headed into the intermission, it was a 12-2 run to start the second half that gave the Mustangs breathing room, ignited by a Brendan Buckley bucket and a Justin Sitti steal.
Joey Skoff would, to no one's surprise, lead Morningside in scoring, with 27 points. Caleb Dreckman followed with 18, Buckley had 16, Daniel Brocaille had 12, and Sitti finished with 10. Skoff, Dreckman, and Sitti each had a pair of steals, and Buckley added two blocks.
Buckley also led Morningside on the glass, with 11 rebounds. Skoff had six, Dreckman had five, and Buckley had four.
The Mustangs turn around tomorrow and play Bellvue in a 7 p.m. contest.
