Morningside hits triple digits in second straight game to take down Mount Marty

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – For the second straight game, the No. 19 Mustangs hit triple digits in the scoring column, taking down Mount Marty 100-71 Saturday evening in Allee Gym.

Morningside built a 22-point halftime lead on the backs of Brendan Buckley and Dylan Johnson. Buckley totaled 19 points and five rebounds in the first half, hitting four three-pointers for the Mustangs. Johnson went 6-for-7 from the floor in the first half, totaling 16 points. Buckley finished with his career high of 19 points and added nine rebounds and Johnson totaled his career high of 18 points.

The Lancers and Mustangs went back-and-forth for a good portion of the second half, but a couple Justin Sitti steals set up easy scores for the Mustangs, and Morningside was able to crack 100 points on a Tate Vanregenmorter three-pointer.

Joining Buckley and Johnson in double figures was Joey Skoff, Ely Doble, and Aidan Vanderloo. Skoff totaled 15 points, Doble 14 points, and Vanderloo 12. All three players are now within 25 points of 1,000 in their careers, with Skoff being the closest to that milestone at 984 points. Morningside shot 54% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc.

Morningside remains at home for their next two contests. First up, the No. 23 Dordt Defenders come to town for a Top 25 showdown. Then, after the holiday break, Morningside plays host to cross-town rival Briar Cliff Wednesday, Nov. 29. Both games are scheduled for 7:45 p.m. starts.
