Bio

Justin Malenosky joined the Mustangs' coaching staff in the 2019-20 campaign following 15 seasons as a coach with the Briar Cliff Chargers' baseball program. During his time coaching for BCU, he also served as a member of the coaching staff for the Sioux City Explorers for two seasons.

Malenosky serves as the first base coach as well as the defensive coordinator for the Mustangs. He implements schemes through the team's scouting reports and defensive alignments. He primarily works with the catchers position group and assists working with the Mustang hitters. Malenosky also serves as a recruiter with the Mustangs, using his coaching contacts to help add to the Mustang family.

While on the Chargers' coaching staff, Malenosky served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. In Great Plains Athletic Conference play, he helped aid the 2003 Chargers team to a conference tournament championship and the 2007 team to a regular-season co-conference championship. He also helped guide the 2008 and 2016 Charger teams to reach regular season GPAC runner-up finishes. In 2015, while serving as the sole recruiter for the Chargers, the team claimed the GPAC regular-season crown and advanced to their first Opening Round appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.

As recruiting coordinator he recruited several players that garnered post-season accolades. His recruiting efforts were highlighted by 2015 and 2016 back-to-back GPAC Player of the Year, Catcher-First basemen Scott Morton. Morton also was awarded 2nd Team All-American in 2015, and 1st Team All-American in 2016. Malenosky would also add a 2nd Team All-American shortstop in 2016 with Alex Colegrove receiving that honor. These numbers also include one other player receiving Honorable Mention All-American, eight players who earned Gold Glove awards at their positions, twelve 1st Team All-Conference selections, fourteen 2nd Team All-Conference selections, and numerous Honorable Mention All-Conference selections.

Malenosky served as a key fundraiser for the Chargers’ baseball program for yearly needs and upgrades. His efforts greatly helped aid the yearly golf outing fundraiser that was put on by the program.  However, his efforts were best seen in the two biggest items that were physically built for the program - the Clubhouse and Press Box facilities. He would raise 90% of all money needed for the clubhouse facility, and 100% of the Press Box project. Not to mention the team effort in building these two projects by hand with his father Mike who was an Assistant Coach as well with the program, who also served as project manager for these projects.

Prior to BCU, Malenosky spent several years at various levels coaching in the Sioux City East baseball program and as head coach of Woodbury Central High School, where he led the Wildcats to back-to-back Western Valley Conference tournament appearances and 20 win seasons.

Malenosky recorded a remarkable Charger playing career as a four-year starter and three-time NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. As a hitter, he compiled 632 career at-bats while only striking out a total of 37 times. Malenosky finished his collegiate career with 15 home runs, a .555 slugging percentage, and a batting average of .394- the third-highest in Briar Cliff history for players with a three year minimum of at-bats. He is tied atop of the career doubles chart with 57 and is fourth in career hits (249) and RBI’s (168). In 2009, Malenosky was inducted into the Briar Cliff University Athletic Hall of Fame.
