Morningside magic runs out as Mustangs are unable to come back on Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. – Morningside Baseball's streak of come-from-behind wins over Mount Marty ended at four as the Mustangs were unable to overcome a five run deficit in the first round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament, falling to the Lancers 8-5.

The Mustangs got on the board first, scoring three runs in the second inning on a pair of singles for Michael Snyder, and Giacomo Crosetti separated by a balk that put runner Nathan Thomas in scoring position, a double for Luke Blackmon, a sacrifice fly for Connor Woods, and a Mount Marty error. Mount Marty answered with three runs in the fifth inning and a five-run sixth.

Morningside countered with a Jacob O'Dell run in the sixth on a Crosetti sacrifice fly and a Snyder single to center in the seventh, scoring Woods. 

O'Dell, Thomas, Crosetti, Blackmon, and Woods all scored in the contest. Snyder, Crosetti, and Blackmon each had multi-hit days, while Crosetti collected a pair of RBIs and Snyder and Woods both had one. 

Cade Nolan took the loss in the contest, giving up eight runs with three earned, while walking four and giving up four hits. Nolan struck out four in 5.2 innings of work. 

The Mustangs will play in game four of the pod, taking the field at 3 p.m. tomorrow, playing Northwestern in an elimination game.
