CRETE, NEB. – The Great Plains Athletic Conference standings tightened up significantly today, as a Doane team that had ended March on a skid against the top of the conference exacted its revenge on Morningside, leaving the Mustangs on the short end of 14-1 and 2-1 scores.
It was Morningside that scored first in both contests, as Jacob O'Dell drove in an RBI on a single in game one and on a sacrifice fly in game two. Ryan Kiolbassa, who scored the run in game 2, also had three of the Mustangs 11 total hits on the day.
Jordan Bierdemann had a solid outing on the mound in game one, taking the final 2.0 innings and giving up just two hits. Kai Purdy-Burton threw 5.1 innings in game two, holding the Tigers to five hits and two runs with four strikeouts.
Morningside will look to move on from today's losses with a pair of contests at Northwestern on Friday. First pitch for the opener will take place at 5 p.m.
