Mustangs collect 25 runs in Sunday sweep over Eagles

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The Morningside University baseball team scored 25 runs en route to a four game-sweep over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Sunday.

Morningside (7-1) defeated the Eagles by scores of 14-3 and 11-4 in Prescott as part of its Arizona trip all week during spring break. 

Game 1: Morningside 14, Embry-Riddle 3 (8)

Morningside wasted little time getting the scoring started, posting five runs in the first inning. Ryan Kiolbassa led the game off with a home run. He had three hits and two RBIs.

Kiolbassa and Michael Snyder also hit a double.

Snyder had three RBIs, while Jacob O'Dell and Giacomo Crosetti drove in two runs. Connor Woods, Michael Delzell, and Corder Noun Harder also knocked home a run.

Conner Maston earned the win in Game 1. He allowed three earned runs on five hits, and he struck out six. Brady Seuntjens pitched a perfect inning.

Game 2: Mustangs 11, Eagles 4

Sam Wilt had the hot bat in Game 2, hitting three homers in the win. The Anamosa, Iowa, native homered in the first, fourth and six innings. His knocks in the first and sixth innings were solo homers, and his homer during the fourth brought in two runs.

Luke Blackmon also hit a solo homer in the first inning. Michael Delzell and Jacob O'Dell doubled in the nightcap, while Conner Maston hit a triple.

Wilt had four RBIs, while Tucker Gibbar drove two in. Other Mustangs who had one RBI were Delzell, O'Dell, Blackmon and Corder Noun Harder.

Morningside used four pitchers in the win, led by Tiago Sanchez. Sanchez pitched four hitless innings. He allowed one earned run on seven walks and four strikeouts. Sebastian Zamora, Sam Hanson, and Joe Harris threw in relief.
