Baseball splits doubleheader with Siena Heights

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Morningside kick-started its spring break trip to Florida with a doubleheader against Siena Heights Saturday. Morningside picked up the game one win 5-0, but dropped game two 2-1.

The Mustangs struck for four in the first inning of game one. Eddie Brancato scored on a wild pitch and Aidan Agosta, running for Jayson Willers, scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0, Mustangs. Ryan Kiolbassa singled to score Giacomo Crosetti and Aiden Bishop scored on a wild pitch to cap off a four-run first. 

Willers added an RBI-single to score Jacob O'Dell in the fifth to cap the scoring for game one. Kai Purdy-Burton pitched six and a third shutout innings for the Mustangs. Josh Pratt gets the final two outs to seal a win.

Willers finished with three hits and O'Dell and Kiolbassa contributed two base hits each. The Mustangs walked six times in the win.

In game two, Siena Heights scored two in the fourth inning and Aiden Bishop scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1. Neither team scratched across a run as Mason Hymer pitched clean fifth, sixth, and seventh innings for the Mustangs, but the bats couldn't break through for a run.

Kiolbassa had two hits and Cade Nolan had an RBI sacrifice fly. Morningside plays two Sunday against Lawrence Tech and Roosevelt.
