Streaking ‘Stangs – Road sweep puts Morningside near league top three

MITCHELL, S.D. – Morningside University showed no signs of slowing down Monday, April 25, after winning nine of its last 12.

Head coach Adam Boeve's crew added victories 10 and 11 during the last 14 contests, toppling Dakota Wesleyan University 11-5 and 5-3 on the Tigers' home Cadwell Park diamond. The recipe towards reaching a 28-14 overall and 14-10 Great Plains Athletic Conference saw a little bit of all hardball ingredients.

Offense was again in high supply. Sophomore infielder Aiden Bishop (Lincoln, Neb.) launched a grand slam during a six-run third inning in the opener. Senior outfielder Hunter Hope (Sioux City, Iowa) slammed a home run, too, and drove in three. It was the two-base variety in game two, with five doubles posted. Junior outfielder Carter Ades (Sioux Falls, S.D.) claimed one of them during a two-hit, one-RBI effort.

Pitching was prevalent as well. Sophomore Quintin Holman (Nebraska City, Neb.) improved to 4-0 with a five-strikeout, four-inning performance in the opener. Bishop moved to 3-1 with a seven-inning, four-strikeout outing in the nightcap. The defense added in superlatives, committing only one error in 15 innings.

The Mustangs close out the regular season Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30. They host Hastings College in a four-game set with a special ceremony honoring the Class of 2022 members planned for Saturday. Game times are 4 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
