
Offense shines bright to begin busy league weekend

Freshman third baseman Jacob O'Dell (Northridge, Calif.) doubled and tripled and drove in five runs in the nightcap, a 17-4 roll past Siouxland Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Dordt University. Freshman catcher Jayson Willers (Davenport, Iowa) added two hits and three RBI, and junior outfielder Carter Ades (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore infielder Aiden Bishop also drove in two runs apiece. The game two victory was spotlighted by an 11-run second inning that gave junior southpaw Caleb Thomsen (Libertyville, Ill.) in his fourth victory, replete with 11 strikeouts.
Game one lit the Mustangs' scoring blitzkrieg. Ades and freshman outfielder Hunter Jenkins (Bakersfield, Calif.) drove in three runs each. Head coach Adam Boeve's crew also headlined the 10-1 victory with a single-game program record-tying four triples led by two from senior outfielder Hunter Hope (Sioux City, Iowa) which tied the single-game individual school mark. Sophomore Wade Canaday was nearly untouchable on the mound. He struck out a personal single-game career-high 12 batters while scattering three hits.
Morningside moved to 22-12 overall and 9-9 in the league. They take a five-game league win streak to Doane University's Ballfield Complex Saturday, April 16. Start time is 1 p.m.
