Mside cruises past Presentation, continues unbeaten start

OMAHA, NEB. – Morningside University's early-season power surge continued with a combined 25 runs in a pair of non-league victories Saturday, Feb. 26.

Hitting the fields at the Jerry Frerichs Complex, head coach Adam Boeve's Mustangs rolled past Presentation College 12-2 and 13-3 to move to 6-0 on the season. The weekend matinee twin bill opened a four-game set.

Game one's 12-run, 11-hit attack buoyed a sparkling starting pitching effort from junior Wade Canaday (Marshalltown, Iowa). He kept the Saints bats at bay to the tune of two earned runs on three hits, striking out 10 in five and two-thirds innings. Junior infielder Eddie Brancato (Arlington Heights, Ill.) drove in three, and freshman Alex Calabrese (Omaha, Neb.) belted a home run to lead the offense.

Game two was more of the same. Sophomore starter Quintin Holman (Nebraska City, Neb.) locked up the visitors on one earned run and struck out nine over six innings. A nine-run explosion over the first two frames offered him plenty of back-up. Brancato, concluding a five-hit afternoon, crushed a homer and drove in five. Sophomore infielder Aiden Bishop (Lincoln, Neb.) accounted for three RBI and tallied two hits.

Mside's weekend excursion wraps up Sunday, Feb. 27. They take on Clarke College and Dakota State University in more non-league competition.
