Mside bashes way past Waldorf

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – A meteoric .370 batting average, two home runs as part of a .630 slugging percentage, and a combined 24-run output lifted Morningside University in its 2022 season opener Friday, Feb. 18.

Head coach Adam Boeve's crew needed every bit of it to forge past a determined Waldorf University club at Briar Cliff University's Bishop Mueller Field. Waldorf held an early 5-0 advantage in game one before junior Hunter Jenkins (Bakersfield, Calif.) hammered a shot to left-center for a home run as part of a three-run rally. The game one comeback was complete with an eight-spot in the sixth spotlighted by senior Carter Kratz (Vermillion, S.D.), belting a grand slam to close out a 16-7 triumph.

The nightcap saw a combination of offense and pitching key an 8-2 decision. The mound combination of sophomore Quintin Holman (Nebraska City, Neb.) and freshman Kai Purdy-Burton (Pasadena, Calif.) struck out a combined nine Warrior hitters. Sophomore Aiden Bishop (Lincoln, Neb.) drove in three and tripled to guide the Mustangs' attack.

Morningside (2-0) continues a four-game series with Waldorf Sunday, Feb. 20. Game time for a pair of seven-inning contests is noon at BCU's Bishop Mueller Field.
