Bio
Kansas City native Wayne Menter was a member of Morningside’s famed “Four Horsemen” track relay team that captured numerous titles, and set many records in the 880 yard, and mile relay events in the late 1920’s, and early 30’s. Teaming with Fletcher Kettle, Clarence Bale, and Elmer Hansen, Menter helped the Maroons set school records in the 880 relay (1:29.4), and mile relay (3:26.4).
They captured first place in the Iowa College Division of the Drake Relays, established meet records at the South Dakota Relays, and finished third at the Kansas Relays, beating several Big 10 schools in the process.
Menter sped to a 50.8 clocking to capture the 440-yard dash at the 1931 North Central Conference meet, and was also part of the 880 yard, and mile relay NCC champions. He also captured the Iowa Conference 440-yard outdoor title in 1931.
