Mustangs Split Day Two in Idaho, Move to 3-1

CALDWELL, IDAHO – A tall order awaited the Mustangs on their second day at the College of Idaho Tournament, as their schedule for day two opened with no. 3 Eastern Oregon University. Morningside fell to the Mountaineers in a tough series, 25-19, 25-22, and 27-25, before ending the trip on a high note with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-22 victory over Arizona Christian.

The Mustangs were led on the attack by Claire Wilson, who had 12 kills. Sydney Marlow had six, Emerson Smith had five, and Emma Haren had four. Aleksandra Dalach tallied 15 assists and Kyla Dyrstad collected 10. 

Marlow and Aureana Bernales co-led the way in the back row, with 12 digs apiece. Dalach had 8 and Dyrstad had seven. 

Wilson led Morningside's defense in the day's second match, collecting four total blocks in the three-setter, with two solo blocks and two block assists. Haren added a solo block and Adelyn Harris had a pair of block assists, combining with Smith and Nienke Van Drunen to reach the team's total of six blocks. 

Dalach led the corps behind the block, with eight digs. Bernales, Marlow, and Jacey Miller all followed with six apiece.

Marlow was hot on the attack in the nightcap, with a team-leading mark of 10 kills. Wilson and Smith followed with seven each, and Haren added six kills at a team-high .556 hitting percentage. 

The Mustangs take the court next in the GoSarpy.com Classic in Bellevue, Neb., playing Goshen and Ottawa on Friday.
