
Mustang women collect two top-three finishes in Kansas
LAWRENCE, KAN. – The Mustang women found a spot on the podium in both of this weekend’s single-day Tier 2 events, competing among a field that offers a preview of some of the teams they’ll see in the coming weeks. Morningside placed third in the weekend opener before one-upping itself and taking the second place spot in Sunday’s tournament.

The Mustangs' team tally in Saturday's event included 4,643 pins from individual games and another 2,312 from a dozen Baker games, totaling 6,955 pins on the day.
Emaly Kruse was the leader at the lane for Morningside, tallying 974 pins to rank no. 10. Carissa Johnson came next, at no. 23, with 929 pins in her five games, and Samantha Schiefen and Rachel Spier checked in at no. 25 and 26, with 927 and 921 pins, respectively.
In Sunday's shorter outing, consisting of seven bowlers' individual games, the Mustangs tallied 6,373 pins, missing the top spot by just 56 pins.
Johnson took the top spot among Morningside's ranks in Sunday's sequel, finishing second overall with 1,348 pins and landing on the all-tournament team. The senior's total was 42 pins shy of sitting atop the individual leaderboard.
Spier completed the day as the Mustangs' no. 2, at no. 10 overall, with 1,287 pins, and Kruse finished at no. 11 with 1,284 pins. Alexa Munhofen was no. 13 with a total of 1,271 pins, and, competing in four of the seven games, Maren Ewertz was no. 83 with 646 pins.
Morningside hopes to roll with the momentum that it built in Lawrence and carry it on to the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament on Feb. 24 and 25.
