Mustangs start GPAC season with 5-2 win at Midland
FREMONT, NEB. – Morningside’s Great Plains Athletic Conference season opener arrived a day late and against a different opponent, as midwest spring weather delayed the Hastings matches until Tuesday. The Mustangs took the changes in stride, picking up a men’s tennis win in the opener, 5-2.
FREMONT, NEB. – Morningside's Great Plains Athletic Conference season opener arrived a day late and against a different opponent, as midwest spring weather delayed the Hastings matches until Tuesday. The Mustangs took the changes in stride, picking up a men's tennis win in the opener, 5-2.
The match started on the right track for Morningside, as Mathys Arnold and Jesse Gerth won the no. 3 doubles match 6-0 and Marcos Menendez Hervella and Alexis Diaz won at no. 2, 6-1, to clinch the doubles point.
The Mustangs' success translated to singles play, as Arnold added a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Midland got on the board with the no. 2 match, but Diaz added a 6-3, 7-5 victory before the Warriors could do any damage. Gerth checked in with a 6-1, 6-0 victory to lock down the match, and Santiago Minetti added a win at the no. 4 spot, 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker, 6-2.
Morningside will play its home GPAC opener on Tuesday at the Mason Family Tennis Complex against Hastings.
