LA CROSSE, WIS. – Host Viterbo University posted a goal in each half, leading the way to a 2-0 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' intersectional decision Thursday, Oct. 21.
The V-Hawks, defending their home V-Hawks Soccer Field, tallied scores in the fifth and 46th minutes as part of a 12-8 shots advantage. Meanwhile, Morningside University head coach Tom Maxon's team and its usual acumen for lighting up the scoreboard was silenced for the first time since last spring, a span of 16 matches.
The Mustangs, dipping to 9-6, saw the first-year midfield combination of Yannik Vogel (Karlsruhe, Germany) and Markus Madsen (Lillerod, Denmark) try and remedy the 90-minute dry spell. They each rattled offensive strikes on frame but were thwarted.
Morningside wraps up three in a row on the road Saturday, Oct. 23. Match time at Mount Marty University in Yankton, S.D., for the Great Plains Athletic Conference competition, is 3:30 p.m.
