Quick Facts Morningside held its opponent under 10 points for a third consecutive week and prevented the opponent from scoring a touchdown for the first time this season at Dakota Wesleyan Saturday. Zach Norton (R-Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) eclipsed 3,000 receiving yards against Concordia on Oct. 7. He is now fifth all-time and needs 217 yards to move into fourth. Ryan Cole (Jr., Plymouth, Iowa) passed the 2,000-yard rushing mark at Dakota Wesleyan Saturday. Cole is eighth all-time and needs 143 yards to move into seventh. Jamestown head coach Brian Mistro played against Steve Ryan in the 2007 showdown between the Jimmies and Mustangs. Mistro, who played safety for Jamestown, recorded an assisted tackle in the game. The last time these two teams met at Elwood Olsen Stadium, the Mustangs came away with a 70-7 win. This is the first time the Mustangs will take on the Jimmies as conference foes without Trent Solsma or Joe Dolincheck at quarterback for the Mustangs.

Head Coach: Steve Ryan (22nd season) Steve Ryan has guided the Mustangs to three National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national titles (2018, 2019, and 2021) and 13 Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships, recording the most football coaching victories and the highest victory rate in Morningside history. Ryan has made the Mustangs postseason regulars, reaching at least the semifinals 10 times. Ryan was inducted into the NAIA hall of fame following the 2022 season. Ryan is a four-time NAIA and American Football Coaches Association National Coach of the Year. Ryan is an 11-time GPAC Coach of the Year, receiving the honor in 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. He received AFCA NAIA Region 4 Coach of the Year recognition in 2005, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 and was the 2004 NAIA Football.net National Coach of the Year.

# 1 Brian Mistro enters his fifth season 2 as head coach of the Jimmies in 3 2023. 4 In 2022, Jamestown finished 5 4-7 overall and 3-7 in the GPAC, 6 the highest win totals for the team since joining the conference in 2018. 7 Punter Izaak Myles and defensive 8 end Paul Vandal were first-team 9 All-Conference selections, with 10 Myles being named to the Associated 11 Press All-American first team and 12 Vandal chosen to the AFCA-NAIA 13 All-American first team. Wide 14 receiver Javon Bowie-Monteiro 15 was a GPAC second-team selection and quarterback Cade Torgerson, 16 linebacker Jed Rantz, and offensive 17 lineman Kole Mack were honorable 18 mention selections. 19 Jamestown continued to show 20 improvement in the 2021 season, 21 ending 2-9 overall and 2-8 in the 22 GPAC. Izaak Myles was chosen as 23 the GPAC’s first-team all-conference 24 punter, defensive back Jordan Olson was named to the second team, and 25 quarterback Cade Torgerson was 26 selected as honorable mention. 27 The 2020 Jimmies finished with a 28 1-7 record while navigating through 29 the COVID-19 pandemic. Punter Izaak 30 Myles was named a first-team GPAC 31 selection while defensive lineman 32 Vincent Corral was named to the 33 second team, and offensive lineman Carter Hangsleben was an honorable 34 mention selection. 35 Mistro was named head coach at 36 his alma mater on January 30, 2019. 37 During his first season, Jamestown 38 went 2-9 overall and 2-7 in the GPAC. Izaak Myles was named second-team 39 40 All-Conference punter, and defensive lineman Vincent Corral was a second- 41 42 team selection.
